What’s really wonderful about Good Hair is the fact that Chris Rock enters into it (even if it’s just for the sake of the film) as someone who hadn’t given the issue much thought, much less considered it an issue, which mirrors the “anyone who’s not black” perspective. And he prefaces it with the story of his little daughter asking about “good hair,” so she was in my mind throughout the journey of the doc. The film microscopes over something we take for granted and manages to communicate something very big and human and universal. It’s so well done and changed everything for me.
